Getaway Position

Pet-peeve #86 - Backing into a parking space aka the getaway position

It absolutely kills me when I'm following someone in a parking lot... they move forward... only to stop, and go into reverse, trying to back into a spot.  Why can't they just pull in like everyone else??? Cuz this 30 seconds of effort will make your exit easier?? I mean... it does... but at what price?

Especially... those at Costco that back-in.  Now they have to leave the cart at the front of the car... carry the load to the back of the car.  It's more work!!

Especially... when people that park normally now have to walk and avoid / bump into your side mirrors.

At one point... I think California didn't even allow cars parked in the getaway position. Oh how I want that law to be re-enacted.

Malservice Industry

Pet-peeve #9 -

Went to Top's Cafe today during lunch rush... and their waitress gave away our baked porkchop rice/spaghetti.  I watched with wide-eyed despair. What are the chances...another table ordered the exact same thing as us, where they wouldn't say, "We didn't order this."

I got so pissed...  for a $43 check... I held back and only gave a $4 tip.  Shouldn't have given anything.  Ugh....

What a waste

 Pet Peeve #12

Before the beginning of every school year... we're told to buy this and that for school supplies. At the end of every school year.... they come home with a bunch of unused junk.  Including, even, 100 page spiral notebooks that have 10 pages of stuff written on it.  Why buy the notebooks if you're not going to use them??

Yes... I tore away the 10 pages... and will reuse that notebook next year.  Wouldn't you?

Just move it, already!!

 COVID19 - School Closure - Day 157 School Reopens - Day 274

Pet Peeve #97 - if something is in your way... move it OUT OF YOUR WAY.  It'll serve you better.  And serve you well.

Case in point... a chair is jutted out in the dining room.  You walk by twice... but have to dance around it.  Why don't you just scoot the chair back in?

Case in point... you're doing dim sum on a lazy susan. For some weird reason... the dim sum lady puts in out of reach of anyone.  You see that anyone who wants that dim sum have to stand up and reach for it... why not just scoot the bamboo basket closer for yourself and anyone else to follow??

Case in point... same lazy susan... the soy sauce/chili sauce/salt and pepper rack is block people from snatching their aforementioned dim sum.  Why can't you just push it closer to the center, out of everyone's way??

Why can't people simply be more considerate??  Make life easier for yourself...and each other.

Nuh-Uh-Uhhhh....

COVID19 - School Closure - Day 157 School Reopens - Day 213

Pet Peeve #15 - Not returning your shopping carts.

I mean... if you're a senior citizen or a mom with young children on a rainy day... fine... prop it up on those cement planters so they don't roll away.  And push it deep into the planter so you don't block a prime parking spot.

Today at Costco... as I was turning the corner... I saw a lady joyfully push her cart and park it next to a cart that was next to a planter.  Not only was the cart a threat to roll away... it was now halfway into someone's parking spot.  I couldn't help myself.... I stared her down with my eagle eyes and shook my head.  I was wearing a cap... so the shaking was more prominent.  "Nuh-uh-uhhhh... C'mon lady!!! The parking stall is one row over!!!"  She must've seen me.... cuz she took a 180 degree turn, walked back to pick up the cart, and parked it in its rightful place of destination.

In my parochial, legalistic, specious self... I did society some good today.  I will all asleep with a smile on my face.

Lost and Found

COVID19 - School Closure - Day 157 School Reopens - Day 210

Peet Peeve #132 - Carelessly losing things.... and showing zero remorse!

Why does it bother me so much when things are misplaced.  When the kids were younger... I would lose it and turn the house upside down (while scaring the bejeezus out of them) if they misplaced a library book.  How hard is it to keep track of your books??

Earlier tonight... NN owned up to losing the tip to her stylus. I was trying to keep my frustration in... but the fact that this stylus was bought to replace a previously lost stylus.  And it was a tiny, little tip that she unscrewed out of habit so she can play with it.  I was stunned that there was almost zero effort put into finding the tip... albeit, it's about the size of a booger.  I kept telling myself... it's only money.  Don't make a big deal out of it. I kept thinking... how would Ken and Hody handle this?  But the more I thought about it... the more frantically I searched in vain... the more worked up I got.

Fine.  I'll buy replacement tips.  I'm sure it happens more often than not.  Only to find out... it's out of stock everywhere!! Might as well buy another stylus.  Geeeeeeez!!!  Keep your fidgety hands away from a teeny-tiny piece of thing-a-ma-bob and care about your stuff for once.  I bet if they had to pay for the replacement themselves... they'll learn that mom and dad won't always buy their way out of trouble.

Ugggggghhhhh....

The YIELD Sign

How many drivers out there see YIELD...

but think, MERGE. Well...at least MERGE, you have the unwritten rule of semi-YIELDING... some people don't even semi-YIELD!!
